Following Christ, Even in Suffering

Matthew, a seminary student in our church, shared from Hebrews 13 that to follow Christ is to join him in all he does, including suffering, applying the truth to all people and to the missionary task in particular.

The Messiah Who Provides and Makes Full

Jesus feeds the 5,000, proclaiming that he is the Messiah who provides and makes full - that he is the bread of life who alone can satisfy.

He Sent Them Out to Proclaim the Kingdom of God

As disciples of Jesus we are sent to proclaim and bring the good news of the kingdom of God in the power and authority he has given. It is a task that calls for urgency, selflessness, dependency, and opposition.

Don't Be Afraid, Only Believe

Astounding things happen at the intersection of Jesus' power and our faith. This last part of Luke 8 helps us see the need to believe, despite obstacles to our faith, and it reveals Jesus power over disease and death.

Every Knee Must Bow

As we continue to answer the question, "Who is Jesus?" he shows his absolute power over demons and the unseen world. We also see that no one is beyond his saving power and that those who have been changed by him are called to tell others how much he has done for them.

Who is This?

Jesus shows his power over creaton as he calms a storm on the Sea of Galilee. Through his question for the disciples, "Where is you faith?" and the question of their hearts, "Who is this man?" we find that our faith increases as we know more fully who Jesus is. And if Jesus is with us, and he is who he says he is, then nothing can shake us.

Take Care How You Hear

Jesus exhorts us to take care how we listen to the word, because it is those who hear the word and do it who are truly members of God's family.

Soil Samples

Through both a real life example and a parable, Jesus tells us that the fruit of the word planted in our lives is determined by the soil of our hearts.

Forgiven Much

As Jesus dines with Simon the Pharisee a sinful woman astonishes everyone and gives Jesus the opportunity to teach us that those who are forgiven much, love much.

That's Not What I Expected

Doubt crept into John the Baptist's mind when Jesus did not meet his expectations of the Messiah, but Jesus helped him see that he was better than John could have expected. The Pharisee's expectations became demands, such that they were unwilling to come to Christ in repentance and faith.
